“Irresponsible, immature, lazy, self-centred,…”, yet entrusted to self administer life saving Hemodialysis?
Following a diagnosis of Stage 5 Kidney failure (bilateral) and a year of attending hospital to have a four-hour Hemodialysis treatments every other day, I asked about the possibility of dialysis at home. To my horror they were very enthusiastic, and 2 months later, I graduated from dialysis school and was given the tools and knowledge to do it to myself, in my spare room, three times a week.
A complete change in habits, character, application and outlook on life is required to make this a successful endeavour.
